YMCA Global Kindergarten・活動紹介 YMCA Global Kindergarten (YGK) is in the
midst of summer school weeks! Children
are having fun everyday.
On the very first day, we had a special
program, a flower arrangement class, welcoming a teacher who used to work as a
flower arrangement teacher in the UK.
They say seeing, smelling, growing and
touching flowers or plants does good for the children’s emotional and creative
development; it’s called “Hanaiku” or “Education through Flowers”. We think it’s very true as our children loved
this special activity and their works. I
hope their families also enjoyed their splendid work!
On this coming Saturday, we will have the
Summer Festival from 10:00-12:00. Anyone
is welcome to join. We look forward to
YMCA Global Kindergarten・行事報告 At YMCA Global Kindergarten (YGK), an
English kindergarten run by Yokohama YMCA, we had one of the biggest annual
school events, the Operetta, on Wednesday, July 20.
The first show was “The Carnival of Animals”
played by the Puppy class (K1) students.
Although this was their very first experience to act out and sing in
front of the big audience in the chapel hall, they enjoyed performing their
The second performance was “The Golden
Goose” played by the Kitten class (K2). We could see a big leap compared to last
year. They were so poised and
harmonious. They seemed to enjoy the
show from the bottom of their hearts.
The operetta came to the climax when the
Cub class (K3) showed themselves on the stage for their show, “The Wizard of Oz”.
They were so proud to perform for their
very last operetta of their kindergarten days.
We could really see how much they have grown in many ways.
We hope all of the YGK families liked their
We will have the summer festival on

We, YMCA Global Kindergarten (YGK), an
English kindergarten, run by Yokohama YMCA, are enjoying this hot weather.
We have been waiting for this heat for our favorite
summer activity, the water play on the balcony!! Under the burning sun, each class enjoyed the
first water play of this school year. It
feels so good and refreshing playing in the water.
There are only several days to go for this
semester… but we have another exciting event, -the Operetta, waiting ahead of
us!! We are all getting ready to
surprise our families with our great performance!!
YMCA Global Kindergarten・活動紹介 July 7th was Tanabata. At YMCA Global Kindergarten (YGK), an English kindergarten run by Yokohama YMCA, we had a
Tanabata Festival where we learned about what Tanabata is, how we celebrate the
Also, we enjoyed the puppet show, the story
of Orihime and Hikoboshi, by the YGK teachers.
During art time, they made wish strips
(Tanzaku) and hang them on bamboo branches.
Kitten class students even made their own paper-crafted bamboos.
This was how we learned and had fun over
one of the Japanese traditional annual events.
Soon, one of our biggest events, the
Operetta, will be held. Each class' children
are busy practicing their play. We look
forward to seeing all the YGK parents there.
We are quite sure that you will be enchanted by their performances.

At YMCA Global Kindergarten (YGK), we enjoyed
the rainy season last month.
Each class had fun walking in their favorite
rain jacket and rain boots on a rainy day.
It feels so special walking in the rain without an umbrella, hearing and
feeling the rain directly and walking in a puddle.
They also enjoyed crafts related to summer,
clouds and hydrangeas.
The Cub class (K3) children learned about
various kinds of clouds. Knowing that,
looking up at the cloudy sky becomes more interesting!
