We went to sweet potato picking

The children of YMCA Global Kindergarten went to pick sweet potatoes.  Sadly, the sun hid behind a thick curtain of clouds.  But we did still catch a lucky break in the weather and got to go and dig out our sweet potatoes from the field.  We feel fortunate!

We covered up in our rain coats, rain boots and cotton gloves and got digging.  Although it had been raining for several days on end, the land was well-drained and the soil was soft and fluffy.  We used small shovels and dug the soil until we found the sweet potatoes hiding in it.  We had a happy encounter with a small beetle larva, also.  As we didn’t want to disturb his sleep, after a short observation, we put him back in his bed of soil.  After a half hour, everyone got a bagful of sweet potatoes.  It was so much fun!

After enjoying our lunch in a big tent, we came back to YMCA, safely and happily.

　ＹＭＣＡグローバルキンダーガーテンではお芋ほりに行ってきました。残念なことにお日様は分厚い雲のカーテンの後ろに隠れてしまっていました。でも、ラッキーなことに雨の合間を縫って、畑へ出かけることが出来ました。

　レインコートと長靴に身を包み、軍手をはめて、準備完了！雨が数日降り続いた後でしたが、畑の土は柔らかくふわふわでした。小さなショベルを手に掘っていきます。すると、土の中からお芋が顔を出しました。畑の土の下でお昼寝をしていたカブトムシの幼虫も発見！しばらく観察をした後は、元通り、土のお布団へと戻してあげました。３０分もすると皆の袋はお芋でいっぱいになりました。とっても楽しかったね。

　大きなテントの下でお昼をいただき、安全に楽しくＹＭＣＡに戻ってきました。
