Flower Festival

YMCA Global Kindergarten・活動紹介

At YMCA Global Kindergarten (YGK), an English kindergarten run by Yokohama YMCA, we celebrated the flower festival on Tuesday, June 14.

The flower festival is said to have originated as part of the Sunday service for children at a Massachusetts church.  It was a way of thanking God for the beauty of flowers.

Gradually, the ceremony broadened its scope beyond the church walls.  For as far as can be remembered this day was called Flower Day, likening children to flowers.

People started to bring in flowers to the church, decorate the chapel hall with those flowers and deliver them to sick people and people in their community.

On this day, the children came to school holding flowers in their hands.  Each class visited and gave flowers to the people in and around the YMCA to show our gratitude.  The children were so proud and happy giving out flowers.

We would like to keep it in our minds that we are supported and protected by many people always so we would like to thank everyone who is supporting us at all times.

ＹＭＣＡの全日制英語幼児園・ＹＭＣＡグローバルキンダーガーテン（ＹＧＫ）では、６月１４日（火）に花の日のお祝いをしました。

「花の日」は、１８５６年６月、アメリカ・マサチューセッツ州の教会で行われた子どもの日礼拝において、自然の中にあふれている神様の恵みに感謝することから始められたとされています。この精神は次第に広がり、いつの頃からか、子どもを花にたとえてこの日を「花の日」と呼ぶようになりました。人々は花を持ち寄り、礼拝堂を飾り、その花を日頃お世話になっている人や病気の人のところに届けるようになったとのことです。

この日、子ども達は小さな手に花を握って登園してきました。年少から年長のそれぞれのクラスがＹＭＣＡ内外のいろいろな方にお花を届けに行きました。お花を渡して皆さんが喜んでくださるその笑顔を見て、皆とても誇らしげで嬉しそうでした。

たくさんの方々に陰に日向に見守り支えていただいていることをいつも心に留めていたいと思います。また、そのようにいつも支え、守ってくださる皆様に心からの感謝を届けたいと思います。
